"Barefoot Fiddlin" Denise
McCurdy, Violinist/Fiddleress....
From classical violin to country fiddle,
Denise McCurdy offers a unique style of her own. When she
says, "I don't want to be just another country fiddler,"
you wonder how that could ever be a concern.
Denise began studying music at the age of
seven. For eleven years, she studied with Polish concert
violinist Michael Wilkermerski, a member of the Houston Symphony
Orchestra. From the ages of 12 through 18, Denise played
with the Houston All-City Orchestra which occasionally joined in concert with the Houston Symphony Orchestra. Concerts in Jones Hall were directed by various
distinguished conductors including world renowned Andre Previn.
In her career as a country artist, she
has worked with Gene Watson, Johnny Duncan and Flaco
Jimenez. Her sterling performances are broadened by her
charming smile and wit that immediately connect with the hearts of
any audience. While performing on a flatbed trailer at a
chili cook-off on a hot Texas summer day, Denise kicked off her
sandals for a speedy fiddle tune and was thus deemed the
"barefoot fiddler." That kind of barefoot fiddlin'
is what Denise does best.
Denise continues to compose classical and
contemporary music and now adds a few country songs as well.
Don't be surprised when she rests her fiddle and belts out a
Patsy Cline tune. She has been noted for her good ear and
perfect pitch and this quality is evident both on stage and in the
studio
